mountains are so silent with no people, and are so vast and covered with many trees. / So many worthy men are in the court, why are you in the empty valley? / Your writings lack response as your thoughts are profound, the dao (truth) is hard to understand and you walk alone. / Delight in the flowing spring on the rocks, and the thatched cottage among the pines. / Enter the clouds to raise chickens, go up to the mountaintop to hold calves. / The immortals offer dates as big as melons, tigers sell apricots to reap grains. / Ashamed of being incompetent and hindering the worthy, disliking myself for being old yet greedy for salary. / Vow to resign the official seal and follow you, why need the diviner like Zhan Yin to do divination.

赏析

This poem has a desolate and reclusive mood. In terms of writing techniques, it uses a lot of parallel sentences, such as '山寂寂兮无人,又苍苍兮多木' which forms a contrast between the desolate mountains and the bustling court later. Emotionally, it expresses the poet's admiration for the reclusive life of his friend and also reflects his own self - reflection on officialdom. The description of the reclusive life in the mountains, like '入云中兮养鸡,上山头兮抱犊', creates a very idyllic and carefree reclusive mood. The theme of the poem is mainly about friendship and the pursuit of reclusive life. The mention of '神与枣兮如瓜,虎卖杏兮收谷' also adds a touch of mystery to this reclusive life, which is in line with the characteristics of the hermit's life in the traditional Chinese concept.
